FAQs

1. What is Middle Aged Vandals?

Middle Aged Vandals is a fitness and wellbeing club for men over 50 who want to fight back against decline, stress, and the myth that middle age means slowing down. We offer non-contact boxing-inspired sessions focused on pad work, strength, stamina, and community.

2. Do I need to be fit to join?

Absolutely not. MAV is designed for men of all fitness levels. Whether you’re starting from scratch, coming back after years away, or just looking for something new. No experience required.

3. Is there any sparring or contact?

Nope. Our sessions are strictly non-contact. You’ll be hitting pads, not people. It’s all about movement, strength, and stress relief - not competition or combat.

4. Do I need boxing or martial arts experience?

Not at all. We’ll teach you everything you need to know. Our sessions are beginner-friendly and paced to suit your level.

5. What should I wear or bring?

No Lycra required. Just wear comfortable workout clothes and trainers. We provide the pads and glove. Just bring water and a willingness to move.

6. What happens in a typical session?

Expect a mix of pad work, simple circuit-style exercises, and great music. Sessions are designed to build strength, stamina, and confidence, with plenty of laughs and support from the group.

7. Is this like a regular gym?

Not even close. No mirrors, no machines, no egos. MAV is a tribe - a space for real men to move, connect, and feel strong again.

8. How do I join or try a session?

You can contact us to book your first session. We welcome newcomers and offer trial classes so you can see if MAV is right for you.

9. Who runs MAV?

MAV was founded by Jonathan Brown, a 57-year-old who knows what it’s like to let fitness slide. He created MAV to help men like him rediscover strength, confidence, and camaraderie - without judgement.

10. Is there a social side to MAV?

Definitely. MAV is as much about connection as it is about fitness. You’ll find a supportive crew of men who get where you’re at, and who show up for each other.
